Can a 2 Inch Receiver Be Installed in the Non-Shank End of a Cargo Carrier

Question:

I have a 2013 VW Touareg with 2inch receiver. I have mounted my Thule 9044 T2 classic 2-bike carrier without any difficulties. On an upcoming camping trip, I was hoping to add a tailer hitch cargo carrier, to allow more room inside the vehicle. I was hoping to be able to then mount the Thule 9044 to the back of the cargo carrier - paying careful attention to weight loads. Is it possible to add a 2inch receiver to the back, open end opposite of the shank of the cargo carrier to accommodate the 9044?

I have a solution for carrying both a bike rack and a cargo carrier. Unfortunately, you cannot use the open end of the cargo carrier to mount a bike rack. The carrier is not designed to carry the weigh and failure of the carrier may happen when in transit.

I recommend using a roof top cargo bag, like the Rightline Ace 2 Rooftop Cargo Bag # RL100A20. This cargo bag can hold up to 15 cubic feet of cargo that can give you more room inside your 2013 Volkswagen Touareg. The bag is waterproof to protect your items from the elements and can mount to existing roof rails or on a naked roof.

The reason why it is dangerous trying to install the bike rack on the back of a cargo carrier, like # e98874, is having all that extra weight hanging so far from the hitch will put stress on both hitch and carrier. Plus as you drive down the highway, the excess bounce from the road and extra weight will cause the carrier or the hitch to fail.

I have attached a product video of the Rightline Cargo Bag for you to review.
