Brake Controller and Install Wiring Harness Recommendation for 2009 Mitsubishi Outlander

Question:

Hi, I asked about adding a hitch to our Outlander recently and ordered the recommended parts h We purchased the trailer and have found out it does not have any brakes. We would like to add an electric braking system. I checked the wheel and it has the flange with bolts. I believe it is a a 5 bolt wheel pattern. We didnt pick the trailer up yet so I cant measure the hub if needed but could after. Can you let me know what parts we will need to create an electric braking system? Also should we swap out the harness that was previously recommended for something different? Thanks!

Let's start with the wiring on your 2009 Mitsubishi Outlander that you have a 4-way installed on currently. This is the correct wiring kit to use as a base for the rest of the wiring to install the controller.

From there you would need to convert the 4-way to a 7-way so that you can install the brake controller. For that you will want the Brake Controller Install Kit and 7-Way Adapter part # ETBC7. I attached installation instructions and an install video for this product as well.

For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup.

To add brakes to the trailer we will need to know more about the hubs though. I would need to know the spindle your axle has so that we can fit brake hubs on it. The only way to do that is to pull the hubs and get either the bearing numbers out of the hub or measures the spindle where the bearings ride.
