Hitch Bike Rack Clearance When Used on Front-Mount Hitch Receiver on 2014 Ram 2500
Question:
I have a 2014 Ram 2500 Laramie 4 wheel drive. I am thinking of getting the Curt front hitch receiver # C31015. Will the Kuat NV 2.0 2-Bike Platform Rack with the 2inch # NV22G fit in my vehicle and have enough clearance for the bikes? Will the bike pedals, handle bars, etc. clear the grill on the Ram? Thank You.

When we installed Curt front hitch # C31015 on a 2010 Ram 2500 the hitch pin hole was positioned 9-1/2-inches behind the leading edge of the front bumper cover. This means that the excellent Kuat NV 2.0 2-Bike Platform Rack # NV22G would clear the front of the vehicle when in its down (bike carrying) position but would NOT be able to fold up when it is unloaded. It is a virtual certainty that parts of the inner bike would contact the vehicle.
Since front hitches tend to need more clearance than rear-mount hitches, you will want to choose a hitch bike rack with as much clearance as possible from its hitch pin hole. A 2-bike platform carrier with good clearance is the Swagman Dispatch # S44FR. This rack provides 18-inches between its hitch pin hole and the nearest wheel cradle. This means that if the inner bike were to be 18-inches wide, it would just clear the front of the truck.
