Adding a 7-Way Trailer Connector to Use Prodigy RF Brake Controller on a 2017 Jeep Renegade

Question:

Hi etrailer experts! I have a 2017 Jeep Renegade Latitude with the factory installed 4 pin wiring. I have a small trailer with brakes that I wish to haul. I was considering purchasing the following: Tekonsha Prodigy RF Brake Controller Hopkins 4 pole to 7 pole adapter # 37185 Pollak 40am in-line Circuit Breaker # 9510 I was planning on plugging the Hopkins Pole Adapter # 37185 into the existing 4-pin, then running a 12v lead from the battery back to the Hopkins Adapter # 37185 with the Circuit Breaker # 9510 inline and attaching that to the black wire on the Adapter # 37185. I would also ground the Adapter with the provided white wire. I would next cap off the blue brake and purple auxiliary wires on the adapter because they would not be needed please confirm!. Using a set up like this, I would be able to have the Tekonsha Prodigy rf controller control the brakes in my trailer without having to do anything other than essentially run a power lead back to the adapter at the hitch. Could you please confirm?

You nailed it! Since you already have a 4-Way on your 2017 Jeep Renegade Latitude then you would just need the 4- to 7-Way adapter like you said, # 37185. The Prodigy RF # TK94FR needs the 12 volt circuit to be functional on the 7-Way but not the blue brake output wire or purple reverse light wire so you can cap those off as you said.

The 40 amp circuit breaker # 9510 is usually what we recommend on a 12 volt circuit so that will work too. For wire to go to the battery from the 7-Way you can use # 12-1-1 which is sold by the foot. If you need ring terminals, connectors, and other wiring tools I recommend wiring kit # HM51020.
