How to Install a Brake Controller on a 2012 Ford E-350 Van w/o Factory Trailer Connection

Question:

Does this part work for a van that did not have a factory prewired harness? I have had to wire up the electrical for a trailer hitch in the back. I need to add a brake controller so I bought the tekonsha one but I would like to do it without having to hardwire it in. I would think this part #3034-p would be helpful but If I plug it into my van, how to i make sure the blue wire for break modulation runs back to my 7-pin connector in the back? Am I missing something? Let me know. Thanks. Dave

I have a solution for you, but on your model 2012 Ford Van the brake controller will have to be hardwired to the van.

If you already have installed 7-way, then a blue wire must be run from the 7-way up to the cab of the truck to connect to your brake controller. I recommend using # 10-1-1 for the brake circuit wiring. I also recommend # 12-1-1 wiring when connecting to the stop light switch on your van. This wire is sold by the foot.

I also recommend using # 5506 Wiring Kit for Brake Controller. This kit will include a duplex wire to run both 12-volt power and a ground to your brake controller, This kit also will include circuit breakers and connectors to complete the job.

I have attached an article and a diagram the will help you with your installation of the controller.
