Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver and Other Parts to Tow with a 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport
Question:
Hi Im looking to purchase a trailer hitch and Im not sure which one to get as there are several options and a couple require straps with certain towing. I drive a 2016 outlander sport. I would be doing light towing sometimes and am looking to get a bike rack as well. Which model number would you suggest ? Thank you !

The trailer hitch receiver I recommend for your 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is the etrailer # e63AR. This is a Class III hitch with a 2 inch receiver opening. Also, a Class III hitch receiver has a 2 inch opening. The 2 inch accepts a larger variety of bike racks and other accessories than a 1-1/4 inch will. If it turns out you need to carry a 1-1/4 inch accessory it's also a lot easier to use a reducer from the 2 inch than it is to go the other way.
Since you said you're going to be towing you'll also need a wiring harness in order to power the trailer's lights. If the Outlander has LED lights harness # 118538 will work for you. It plugs in behind the tail lights. If you don't have LEDs on the Outlander instead use # C59496 which is a universal harness that will spliced into the vehicle's wiring. Everything needed to install either harness is included.
You'll also need a ball mount and hitch ball. I've attached link of our selection of ball mounts for a 2 inch hitch receiver as well as an article to help you determine the correct rise or drop you may need. Once you choose a ball mount you can then choose a hitch ball to fit it.
For a pin and clip to fit you can use # PC3 or if you'd like to have a locking pin you can use # BX8858.
I've also included links to some articles on towing that you might find helpful.
If you'd like some recommendations on a bike rack let me know how many bikes or any specifics you're looking for and I'd be happy to give you some ideas.
