Brake controllers themselves are not vehicle specific, so you will be able to use just a bout any one you wanted. I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2, # 90885. This is the newest version of the popular Prodigy series of brake controllers. This controller is easy to set up and easy to use. I have included a link to the installation details for reference.
The controller comes with a wiring harness. One end plugs into the back of the controller, the other end has blunt cut wires for splicing into the tow package wiring on the vehicle. At this time, there is no vehicle specific adapter available for the 2011 Volkswagen Touareg. If the vehicle has a wire bundle under the dash, you would just need to splice in the wires from the brake controller by function. Your VW dealer should be able to tell you the location of the wiring.
Once you know where the connections need to be made, installation will be very easy and you can accomplish it and set up of the brake controller in probably less than 1 hour provided that the tow package wiring is within easy reach and you do not have to route wires under the vehicle. I have included an FAQ that applies to 2005 to 2008 VW Touaregs that may help. It is also possible that there is a port or factory harness located under the dash and you will need a VW specific adapter from the dealer.
