Installing the Deka Battery Isolator In Marine Application With Outboard Motor

Question:

Im installing the 08771 in a boat with an outboard motor. Can I just connect the alternator terminal to the starting battery as i do not have access to the alternator in the outboard motor. The rest of the connections will be the same I to the ignition and 2 to the second battery. The charging voltage at the battery is the same as the alternator as they are connected together at the motor. I assume that the i terminal is the control to connect the #2 terminal to the #1 terminal for charging and disconnect when the ign is off. Thanks

For your outboard motor on a boat applicaiton, when installing the Deka Battery Isolator - 120 Amp # DW08771 you can just connect the alternator terminal to the starting battery as you mentioned. This will still isolate a second battery in the format that you have stated. I've attached a diagram to help and it shows the dotted line from the alternator back to the positive terminal of the battery. This will allow the second battery to charge with ignition on, but will not allow second battery to drain the main battery when the ignition is off.
