How to Gain Clearance Between Vehicle and Trailer Load
Question:
I am towing kayaks that hang over the front of the trailer deck. How much clearance do I need between the front of the kayaks and back window of my SUV?

There isn't a defined amount of distance you need to have between your tow vehicle and the kayaks on your trailer. You'll have the most issue while turning so I recommend testing to see how well they work in an empty parking lot or somewhere like that.
To give yourself more clearance you can use a longer ball mount. The Brophy # BM20 measures 13-1/4 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball hole. This will help keep the kayaks further from you SUV to help you make turns.
