Installation of Prodigy Brake Controller in a 2016 T&C van with Factory Installed 7-Way

Question:

I have been unable to obtain from Chrysler any information on their factory installed 7 Pin connector wiring. Your video shows installing a 7 pin Kit, but Im looking to see how to integrate / install with factory wiring. Chrysler fails, after many tries, to provide any information on the wiring from the 7 Pin connector or included fuses / breakers. There is reference to a fuse for trailer towing in the owners manual. This 2016 Town and Country van includes from the factory a 2 inch hitch receiver, load leveling shocks and the 7 pin connector. Chrysler states: Trailer brakes are recommended for trailers over 1,000 lbs 453 kg and required for trailers in excess of 2,000 lbs 907 kg. 2016 Town and Country Touring wagon van It has relative for towing 3600 lbs max:Trailer Sway Damping, Heavy Duty Engine Cooling, Engine Oil Cooler,Heavy Duty Transmission Oil Cooler,Heavy Duty Radiator,Load Leveling and Height Control, Trailer Tow Wiring Harness and Class II Receiver Hitch

First let's start with a brake controller. I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885 that I believe you are considering already. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup. We don't have a way to tie into factory 7-way wiring but we can still help you wire the controller up and make it functional.

Next, for a wiring kit to install the brake controller to the 7-way you would want the Wiring Kit for 2 and 4 Brake Electric Brake Controllers # 5506. This will provide the power source and ground for the wiring for the brake controller. You will need to test the wires from the brake pedal switch of your vehicle to find a circuit that has voltage when the brakes are applied and none when not applied. This will be the circuit you will run the red wire to.

Finally you will need to run a length of 10 gauge wire (part # 10-1-1) from the brake output circuit of the controller to the brake output circuit of the 7-way (blue wire). The # 10-1-1 is sold by the foot so you will need to order a quantity of the amount of feet you will need.

I attached an FAQ on installing brake controllers for you to check out.
