To choose the correct weight distribution system you'll need to find your total tongue weight. This is your trailer's loaded and ready to tow tongue weight added to the amount of weight stored behind the 2016 Ram 1500's rear axle. You want the total tongue weight to fall somewhere in the middle of what the system is rated for.
With a trailer between 7,500 and 8,000 pounds you'll likely need a system rated for 1,000 pounds of tongue weight. If this ends up correct I suggest the Reese Steadi-Flex # RP66559. It uses friction pads similar to automotive brake pads for sway control. If your total tongue weight is over 1,000 pounds you can go with the # RP66560 rated up to 1,200 pounds.
Both systems will also need a hitch ball. Use # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch ball or # A-90 for a 2 inch.
