Any Additional Parts Needed To Install Reese Gooseneck Hitch # RP58079 To A 2009 GMC 2500HD
Question:
I currently have Reese 16K Kwik-Slide #30051 mounted on my 2009 GMC 2500HD Diesel short bed truck. Will I need additional parts with the RP58079 Goose neck adapter? I want to pull a goose neck horse trailer. Thank you

Expert Reply:
The Reese Above-Bed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch, part # RP58079, will attach to your base rails that are installed in your 2009 GMC Sierra 2500 Diesel short bed truck. You will not need to use any other additional parts.
If you have the Reese base rails in your vehicle they will be rated for 25,000lbs and the Reese gooseneck hitch is rated for 25,000lbs, so your towing capacity will be limited to the capacity on your vehicle. Remember to stay under the rating of the lowest rated component of the towing system.
The Reese gooseneck hitch has easy to use handles that also function as the safety chain loops, but some states require safety chains to be attached to a separate connection point other than the hitch. You might want to check with your state laws regarding the connection of the safety chains.
If you are wanting to lock the gooseneck hitch to the base rails in your truck, you can use the Reese Pull Pin Lock Plates for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches, part # RP58093. These plates will install over the pins that hold the gooseneck hitch to the rails and can be locked using a normal padlock.
I am including a link to the installation instructions on the Reese gooseneck hitch.
