How to Select Correctly-Rated Weight Distribution System for Travel Trailer

Question:

I bought a travel trailer that weighs 1600 lbs with a tongue weight of less than 200 lbs. I think the Reese 350 Mini WD would be perfect. Do you sell this hitch? Thanks.

The key to choosing an appropriately-rated weight distribution/sway control (WD/SC) system is knowing the actual fully-loaded trailer tongue weight (TW), with all supplies and gear loaded up. You need to add to this measured TW the weight of any cargo in the vehicle that sits behind the rear axle, say a loaded cooler or a generator, since that cargo weight will act just like it is trailer TW.

We offer TW scale # e99044 that makes measuring easy.

If your trailer's dry hitch weight is 200-lbs then by the time you load it you could be closer to 300-lbs if for example there are full water and/or propane tanks up front.

The Reese Mini Lite is no longer available but Reese replaced it with their latest Steadi-Flex trunnion bar system, part # 66557, which works over a TW range of 250 to 400-lbs. This should be an ideal match to your travel trailer. All you need to add is a hitch ball of the appropriate size for your trailer coupler, such as # 63845 or # 63847.
