Choosing the Correct Reese Weight Distribution System
Question:
Trailer is 5700 lbs dry and 570 TW. Loaded not sure, maybe 700-800 TW. Should I error on the light or heavy side of the hitch rating? I am inclined to go with the heavy 700-1200 lb tw hitch # 66084 since I could possibly be over the max 700 lbs for the lighter hitch # 66083. Ball height on the trailer is 20-21. Is this in the proper range for the included shank? Difference between round vs trunnion bars? Towing with 5.7 Sequoia

In order to determine the correct weight distribution system for your setup you need to know your trailer's loaded and ready to tow tongue weight. You'll also need to add in the weight stored behind the rear axle of your Sequoia. You need that total tongue weigh to fall within the range of the system you choose. If the system is rated too low it won't do it's job. Too high and your ride will be rough and rigid.
I suggest using a tongue weight scale like # e99044 to find out what your trailer's tongue weight is when it's loaded. Once you have that you can find your total tongue weight and choose the correct system. If you're correct about the 700 to 800 pounds the # RP66083 rated up to 800 pounds is going to be too light and the # RP66084 rated up to 1,200 pounds might be too heavy. If you need something in between I suggest the Reese # RP66559 instead. It's rated for 1,000 pounds tongue weight.
To know if the drop or rise of the shank is correct you'll need to measure from the top of the receiver opening to the ground with your Sequoia parked level and find the difference of that with the measurement of the trailer's coupler.
There isn't a difference in performance between trunnion or round spring bars but trunnion bars provide more ground clearance because they insert into the head instead of coming in from underneath.
