Charging A Trailer Battery From Vehicle 7-Way Trailer Connector
Question:
DIY. Towing a 20foot fifth wheel work trailer which is equipped with a center electricfoot jack run by 12v battery. I think he is trying to charge it off existing 7 wire trailer connector. Needs a proper kit to hook up and charge battery when in motion. Secondly, Would consider a built in 110v trickle charger if so equipped. Thank You

To put a maintenance charge on your trailer battery that runs accessories like a trailer jack you would need to run a wire from the 12 volt accessory circuit of your trailer side connector to the positive post of the trailer battery and run a wire from the negative terminal of the trailer battery to the trailer frame. This won't charge a dead battery though, it will just help keep a charged battery topped off. You can use # 10-1-1 for this. I've attached a photo to help with wire location.
To charge a dead trailer battery you would need a charger like the CTEK 7002 Battery Charger part # CTEK56353 that plugs into a wall outlet.
