Question:

I have a 1 ton chevy with a slide in camper..will the 4foot extension tow a small stock trailer with around 400-450 tongue weight? 14foot trailer A horse is being hauled in back 1/2 of trailer over the twin axles, front is just saddle storage.. I have seen boats being towed in this manner and was wanting to tow our stock trailer if possible.

At the 48 inch length hitch extender # RP45018 for 2-1/2 inch hitches will have a tongue weight capacity of 400 pounds. Provided the tongue weight of the trailer does not exceed that 400 pound max you can use it to tow your trailer.

At the 41 inch length the tongue weight capacity is 500 pounds. So if you can get away with 41 inches of extension you will have more wiggle room if the trailer's tongue weight is over 400 pounds but less than 500 when compared to the 48 inch length.
