Looking for Bike Rack with 100 lb Capacity to Clear Spare Tire on 1994 Chevy Sportsman RV

Question:

94, Chevy Sportsman Van GetAway RV. Spare is housed on back of Van, left side. I have a 2 receiver. Will this back rack clear the spare tire, it not, is there an extender attachment. I like the price point and the features. Also, I have two electric bikes which are about 50 pounds each. Will this weight push the limit? I see 80pds is recommended. Thanks! Other ideas are welcomed!

As you state, the weight capacity of the Swagman Platform-Style 2 Bike Rack is 80 lbs. I cannot recommend exceeding that figure, as doing so can damage the receiver hitch resulting in loss of the rack and the bikes.

We do offer two platform-style racks with sufficient weight capacity to safely carry your bikes. The Thule T2 Pro XTR, part # TH96TX, offers a 120 lb weight capacity when set up for 2 bikes and 160 lb, capacity when set up for 4 bikes. It has a 60 lb limit on each bike and offers7 inches of clearance between the hitch pin hole in the shank that slides into the receiver and the closest portion of the rack, and 4-1/2 inches of clearance when folded.

The Yakima Holdup, part # Y02433, also has a 120 lb weight capacity and offers 12 inches of clearance between the hitch pin hole in the shank and the closest portion of the bike rack, or 7 inches when folded.

You will need to measure to determine the amount of clearance needed for your bike rack. Have a friend hold a yard stick or straight piece of lumber against the furthest rearward part of the spare tire. Then, using a measuring tape, measure the distance from the hitch pin hole in the receiver out to the piece of lumber. This distance represents the minimum clearance that your bike rack will need to have. For safety, I would recommend adding an inch to that measurement.

If you would care to take that measurement for me, I would be happy to make some more specific recommendations for you.

I will provide links to the install and set-up instructions for the two racks I have recommended.
