Recommended Weight Distribution System For 6 X 12 Trailer
Question:
What type of equalizer do we need for a Lark 6× 12 trailer with a 29 inch clearance on tongue from center of ball to trailer body? We use a 2 inch ball. Towing vehicle is a 2004 toyota 4 runner 4.7 v-8. And what adaptable parts do we need to accommodate the shorter tongue? How long is the installation time?

Expert Reply:
The 29-inches you said you have form the center of the hitch ball to the trailer body is really going to determine if a weight distribution system will work for you. We do have WD systems with short arms that may work.
First you need to determine what system you need by the tongue weight. You will need to know the tongue weight of your trailer when it is fully loaded and ready to tow. Then add the weight of any cargo you place behind the rear axle of your towing 4Runner. You want to choose a system that your total tongue weight is a bit less than the maximum tongue weight capacity of the system. For instance if your tongue weight is between 800 and 1,000-lbs I recommend part # C17500. The spring bar brackets for this system mount 26-inches from the hitch ball so you will clear your trailer body.
We are not given an estimated installation time from our supplier, but our shop guys said it takes a couple of hours to initially set everything up. After you are used to using the system that time will be reduced depending on the amount of tweaking you will need to do.
