Installation instructions for the Rhino-Rack Roof Rack on the 2016 Subaru BRZ

Question:

The only roof rack options we have for your 2016 Subaru BRZ are ones that require riveting the fit kit to the roof of the vehicle Where do the rivets go? Are they mounted on the aluminum of the car itself? Or do they get mounted in the plastic railing where other Subaru models have rack mounts?

The instructions for the mounting kit # RRRDM01 for the Rhino-Rack Roof Rack are meant to generic instructions to fit multiple vehicles. There are no specific installation instructions for your 2016 Subaru BRZ. The instruction for this mount kit are attached to this page for you to review.

I have an alternate solution to using a roof rack for you. I recommend installing a hitch to use a bike hitch and ski and snowboard adapter on your Subaru.

I like the Curt hitch for your vehicle, # C11379. This hitch is custom-fit to install in existing bolt holes in the frame of your vehicle. You will not need to perform any drilling into the frame. The hitch is a Class I with 1-1/4 receiver opening. Installation time is about 60 minutes and does not require the removal and reinstallation of the rear bumper fascia. It is also recommend by Curt to use stabilization strap, # 18050, with this Curt hitch. The strap is used for extra support of non-towing applications and is required to maintain your warranty on the Curt hitch.

For a bike rack, the Thule Camber 2 Bike Rack # TH9058
is the rack that I recommend. The bike will carry two bikes with a total weight capacity of 70 lbs. However, what I really like about the Thule Camber Bike Rack is that it will function with the Thule Tram Ski and Snowboard Adapter, # TH9033.

The Thule Ski and Snowboard Adapter will mount to the hanging bike rack and allow you to carry 4 pairs of skis or 2 snowboards when used with the Class I 1-1/4 inch hitch.

There will be no unnecessary drilling into the roof of your BZR and the instructions for installing the hitch are specific to your vehicle. Plus, you will have a 2 bike rack to transport bikes if you want in the Spring and Summer. The only downside is the cost would be a little higher than purchasing the Rhino-Rack system.

I have included two review videos of the Thule bike rack and the ski and snowboard adapter for you to review.
