I can help you select the components needed to equip your 2010 Acura RDX to tow a small trailer with electric brakes.

For a 2-inch hitch I suggest the no-drill installation Draw-Tite # 75784 which offers a 4000-lb towing capacity (check your RDX owner's manual for the car's rating). If you have no trailer wiring connector now you can use 4-pole kit # 118500 along with our brake controller install kit # ETBC7. These two parts include all components needed to have a functional 7-way trailer socket and to install a trailer brake controller.

The controller I recommend is the proportional-type Prodigy P2 # 90885. This unit has proven to be reliable, easy to install and to use. It will provide smooth even trailer braking that is consistent with the car's rate of deceleration.

Towing also requires a ball mount, hitch ball and a pin with clip. I suggest our kit # EBMK4 as it includes everything. Helpful articles and videos are linked for you reference.

Weight distribution/sway control (WD/SC) systems are sensitive to trailer tongue weight so this needs to be known in order to select one. You need to know the fully-loaded trailer's actual measured tongue weight (TW) with all tanks filled, gear and supplies loaded, etc. We offer a scale # e99044 that makes this measurement easy. You also need to account for the weight of anything in the tow vehicle that sits behind the rear axle, such as a loaded cooler or generator. The weight of such items acts just like trailer TW and so it must be accounted for.

Please let me know the loaded TW of your set-up and I will be glad to recommend a system. You can refer to the linked article for more on WD/SC systems.
