Recommended 7-Way Wiring For 2011 Toyota RAV4 And Trailer Cable With Junction Box
Question:
I have a tear trailer towed by a 2011 RAV4. I have an existing 4 plug trailer lights system now and I am thinking of adding your 7-way connector. I understand about using #10 wire, the 40 amp circuit breaker and isolation solenoid. My question is that I was going to use your 10foot 7-way plug with attached distribution box but to connect to the trailer battery do I just run a length of #10 wire from the 12v line of the box to the positive terminal of the battery? Is there any other connection to the battery I need to be concerned with?

For your 2011 Toyota RAV4, I recommend using the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7 you mentioned. This will allow you to use your current 4-way and add the 7-way connector. You will need a brake controller for this as well and I recommend using the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 which is a proportional controller allowing your trailer brakes to function with the same amount of pressure and at the same time you hit the brakes in your 2011 RAV4.
For your trailer, I recommend using the 7-Way Molded Trailer Plug with Junction Box # HS381-9000. This will allow you to run a 10 gauge wire like # 10-1-1 from the junction box to a trailer battery's power terminal. You will also want to ground the negative battery terminal to your trailer frame. You can # 44-5310A for the ring terminals needed in your junction box and can also use this for your trailer frame battery ground. For an isolation solenoid to protect your vehicle battery from draining, I recommend # PK5231201.
