Adding Electric Brakes To Trailer Towed With 2015 Ford F-250 With OEM Brake Controller
Question:
Hi I have a 2015 Ford F250 with the OEM brake controller with variable gain. Will that be able to be wired into the connector and control these brakes? I will be adding electric brakes to a trailer that does not currently have them, so I'll have to run the wiring myself. My truck has a 7 pole connector. These brakes look to be the same as I had on my Jayco travel trailer. Thanks for your help!!!

If you are planning on using electric brakes with the # AKHD-545-35-K hub and drum assembly, then you will need to make sure you have your trailer wired and have a trailer connector on the trailer. I can make some additional recommendations that will help.
The self-adjusting electric brakes I recommend that will work with the drums you came from are part # AKEBRK-35R-SA for the right hand(passenger's side). for the left hand you will want part # AKEBRK-35L-SA. These have a 4-bolt mounting flange pattern so you want to make sure the brake flange on the trailer matches.
You will need the trailer wired to match your truck connector. I recommend the 7-Way Molded Trailer Plug with Junction Box, part # HS381-9000. Since this comes with the junction box, all you need to do is complete the wiring from the box to the balance of the trailer. I also recommend a circuit tester like part # 3808 to make sure the wiring for the trailer and truck are a match.
If you are rewiring the entire trailer I recommend using the Deka Jacketed 7-wire, part # DW04914-1. This is sold by the foot so when ordering you will need to make sure you adjust the quantity when ordering. If brake wire is all that you need for the trailer I recommend part # 10-1-1. This is 10-gauge brake wire.
If you do not have one I recommend a breakaway kit. Should the trailer become unhooked form the truck it will apply the brakes on the trailer. I recommend the Engager, part # 20099. This includes a built-in charger and an LED tester.
