Recommended Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator For 1979 Excella Airstream With Disc Brakes
Question:
I have a 1979 Excella with hydraulic vacuum actuated brakes. I want to replace the actuator with an electric. The disc brakes and pads are good but my tow truck is a 2016 F150 with the tow package so I do not want the vacuum stuff. What do I need to get for my airstream? thanks

With hydraulic disc brakes, I don't recommend reverting back to electric drum brakes. We can use your hydraulic system with your 2016 Ford F-150 with the tow package by using an electric over hydraulic actuator. I recommend the HydraStar Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator for Disc Brakes - 1,600 psi, # HBA16. Your 2016 Ford F-150 with factory brake controller is compatible with this actuator.
The electric-over-hydraulic brake actuator activates your trailer's hydraulic brakes when you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle. Your factory electric brake controller will send signal from your tow vehicle to the actuator giving you proportional preassure that makes braking smooth and effective. I've attached an article to assist.
If you don't already have a breakaway kit, I recommend the Engager Trailer BreakAway Kit with Charger and Tester, # 20099. I've attached a video of this install for you.
If you decide you still want to change from disc to electric drum brakes, I will need to know the bearing numbers of the inner and outer bearing on your axle. The number is normally stamped on each bearing.
