For you 1986 Chevrolet K20 pickup truck, I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Class III Trailer Hitch, # 75034. The Draw-Tite hitch will fit both 6 and 8 foot beds with the standard or step bumper. The hitch is a Class III hitch with a 2 inch receiver opening. The hitch has a Gross Towing Weight of 5,000 lbs and a Tongue Weight rating of 500 lbs.
If you are installing this hitch on the 6 foot bed you will need to also order 6 of # 01077-011 3/8 inch spacer blocks.
If you have the 8 foot bed with the deep drop bumper, then the Draw-Tire Max-E-Loader Trailer Hitch # 41504.
B&W also offers a Class IV trailer hitch that will fit the 1986 Chevy K20 with the 8 foot bed only. the B&W hitch # BWHDRH25122 is a heavy duty class IV hitch that has Gross Trailer Weight capacity of 16,000 lbs and a Tongue Weight capacity of 1600 lbs. However, the B&W model only fits the 8 foot bed model K20 and may require a more extensive installation over the Draw-Tite hitches.
I have included a picture that shows the different bumper styles that where available on your vehicle.
