Troubleshooting Prodigy Brake Controller With S.H. Error Code
Question:
Hello, About a week or so ago I noticed my Prodigy P2 was flashing with, either an S.H. or a 5.H. The trailer hasnt been plugged in for at least a month, maybe 2. I called the RV place that installed it and scheduled a time to bring my truck to them. They called me back in after about an hour and they told me it was a plug and play unit that plugs into the wiring harness behind the dash. They went on to tell me that the issue is obviously with the harness and I would need to take it to the dealer where I bought the truck. I also checked the connection at my bumper and there was absolutely zero corrosion. Is there any advice you can give me to trace the problem down? Thank you!

The S.H. reading you are getting on your # 90885 is indicating a short in the wiring somewhere. You can do some testing and troubleshooting to solve the issue.
First cut the blue wire from the back of the controller and test the wire while applying the manual override. If everything works fine then that means there is a problem with the wiring and it is not the controller.
Check all of the wiring connections and the ground connections where the trailer connector is wired to the truck. Then check the plug for any signs of loose or broken or damaged wires.
If that all checks out move to the trailer wiring and check for any issues and fix as needed. If the brake controller is still showing the error and you have checked from the brake controller to the wiring on the trailer it may be the trailer brake magnets. I have attached a helpful article that explains how to check the brake magnets you can check out.
