Parts Needed to Tow Camper with 2007 Honda Odyssey

Question:

We have ordered a new Basecamp and need to decide on our tow vehicle. At the moment, we own a high mileage 2007 Odyssey which, according to what weve seen online, has sufficient power to tow the trailer 2,800 gross, 3,500 max, but are uncertain about the best hitch for this vehicle combination. Also, we are getting conflicting advice on whether sway bars, weight distribution and transmission, power steering coolers are required/advisable. Have you folks worked with this combination before and what do you recommend?

The hitch we recommend for towing with a 2007 Honda Odyssey would be the Draw Tite part # 75270 which is a Class III hitch with plenty of capacity and is compatible with weight distribution systems.

For trailer wiring you would want the # 118438 for a 4-way.

From there you would need to convert the 4-way to a 7-way so that you can install the brake controller. For that you will want the Brake Controller Install Kit and 7-Way Adapter part # ETBC7. I attached installation instructions and an install video for this product as well.

For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup.

Any time you are towing a trailer over half the weight of the towing capacity of the vehicle you will want to use a weight distribution system. For the best I would recommend the Straitline system part # RP66082 as it features only WD system with sway control designed to fight sway before it starts.

For a 2 inch ball you would want part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball # 19286.
