Can Yakima FrontLoader be Installed in Reverse

Question:

Hi. I have been told that the Frontloader will hit the rear hatch when the hatch is opened. If this is the case, can the frontloader be placed backwards on the racks? and is this advisable? is there any downside to having it backwards.

You can install the Yakima FrontLoader Wheel Mount Bike Carrier # Y02103 in reverse if you wanted to. I have actually seen people do this on the highway and it worked fine.

I attached a review video for this rack for you to check out.

Hi, I have a 2019 Subaru Outback, flipping around the front loader (to where the front wheel is facing the backside of the car) allow the rear gate to fully open?

When there isn't a bike loaded switching the FrontLoader orientation should allow for rear hatch clearance since the back of the rack will be pretty much even with the crossbar itself. When you load up a bike though the wheel clamp (and wheel) may interfere with the hatch.
