Local Regulations Regarding Tire Chain Usage
Question:
We have a 2010 Chevy Equinox, all wheel drive. Will we be allowed to pass at interstate chain up stops without chains. Does this policy vary with individual states? Do we need chains on all four wheels.

Laws regarding the use of tire chains vary greatly from state to state, and even from area to area within a particular state. If road conditions warrant it, many states will use highway signage stating that any vehicle that passes that particular point must be equipped with tire chains. I would recommend contacting the state DOT or State Police in the area in question for more specific information.
The Thule XB16 Snow Chains you were looking at, part # TH01571245, would be a great choice for you. This set is pretty easy to install, and even includes a hard sided storage box, a kneeling mat and gloves that make installing the chains even easier. On an AWD vehicle, chains are typically used on all wheels.
I will provide a link to our Tire Chain FAQ, which features a state-by-state listing of tire chain regulations that you might find helpful.
