Are Cables For 2020 Toyota RAV4 With 235/55R19 Tires Same as Chains

Question:

Hi. I have a snow cable chain question for my 2020 Toyota RAV4 with tire size 235/55 R19. I see you have Titan cable snow chains TC729DC which you show will fit my RAV4 and tire size. My RAV4 manual says I cannot put chains on my RAV4 with the above tire size. I assume they mean the heavy, link tire chains, NOT these cable chains with the S minimum clearance rating. Is that a fair assumption? Thanks!

Cables and chains, even if they are Class S will both have clearance issues so for your 2020 Toyota RAV4 with 235/55R19 tires, I would not assume that cables are okay like the Titan Chain Diagonal Alloy Cable Snow Tire Chains # TC729DC.

It is likely that size tire will have interference on the inside of the tire as it would be too close to the vehicle. That said, I do know that in some places you have to have a set of traction devices with you in order to travel, so if you just need something to satisfy that requirement then the inexpensive # TC729DC are a good choice.

Otherwise, I recommend contacting your Toyota dealer to see if the issue is actually clearance on the inside of the tire, or you can just take a peek and see if that's the case. If so, what you can use are chains that do not require any internal clearance at all as they do not go on the rear of the tire near the vehicle, the Konig Premium Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains # TH02230K66.

The # TH02230K66 are a premium option, like the name says, so I do recommend ensuring the issue is clearance on the inside of the tire, and not the top of the tire to the wheel well.
