Tire Chains for a Mercedes Sprinter RV with LT215/85-16 Tires

Question:

I have a Sprinter RV on a dually 3500 chassis with LT215/85R16E tires weighing in around 9000 lbs. I am looking for a set of tire chains that will fit and last. I will only be using when absolutely needed and not travelling far with them, just to get me out of trouble.

The first thing you are going to want to do is consult the Sprinter owners manual for specific information on the use of tire chains.

If you need Class S chains which require the least amount of clearance around the tire I recommend Glacier square-link chains # TC2317. The square-links offer the best traction and they are constructed of low-carbon steel so they should last you a long time especially if they will not be used very often. You would also want rubber adjusters, # PW99 to help provide the proper tension on the chains.

The Thule chains you have referenced, # TH01571245, are also a good option and you will not need rubber adjusters, but are not Class S rated. These chains are easy to install because they automatically tighten and line up as you drive. I have also included a link to our FAQ article on chains. The chains are going to fit on only one of dually wheel on each side.
