Best Ball Mount for 2005 Honda Pilot with a Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver

Question:

I want to know what ball mount I should choose to go with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2 - 13328, the C-45036, C-45030 or the D-26 ball mount? I would be pulling a small trailer approx. 4 x 10, if that matters. Thanks for your help. P.S. I just noticed that you guys are located in my home state, the Show Me state of Missouri! I knew there had to be another reason I choose to buy from you guys. Woo Hoo!!!

All three ball mounts will fit into the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver that you mentioned. The next thing you need to do to make sure that the trailer will pull properly behind your 2005 Honda Pilot is to measure the hitch and coupler height and to determine the correct rise or drop for your trailer. The reason you need to find all of this out is so that you can ensure that you are keeping the trailer level while towing it.

To determine the hitch height you need to make sure that your Honda is on level ground and then you need to measure from the ground to the top of the hitch receiver opening.

To determine the coupler height you need to make sure that your trailer is parked on level ground and then measure from the ground to the bottom of the coupler.

If your hitch measurement is higher than your coupler, then you will want to make sure that you use a ball mount with a drop. If your coupler measurement is higher than your hitch, then you will want to get a hitch that has a rise. These measurements will help you to make sure that you can keep your trailer level.

I will include a link with visuals for you.

After you make these measurements it is just a matter of comparing your findings to the products that you are inquiring about. The Curt Class III Ball Mount # C45036 has a drop of 2 inches, the Curt Ball Mount, part # C45030, has a rise of 1 inch and a drop of 2-1/4 inches.

If none of those hitch mounts have the right rise or drop for you, I recommend using the Convert-a-Ball Adjustable-Height Ball Mount # TK5007. It can adjust to various drops and rises depending on what you are needing. If you are still needing a hitch ball I recommend using the Hitch Ball part # 40038. Since the shank is 1 inch and the diameter of the ball is 2 inches it will fit any of the ball mounts that I have listed here.

If you are still needing a wiring harness for your pilot, I recommend using the Curt Wiring Harness # C55336.

I am copying links to some demonstration videos for you as well.
