How to Install Upgraded Modulite Kit 119176KIT on a 2007 Toyota Solara SE

Question:

Im considering buying this hitch for my 2007 Toyota Solara SE convertible. Is the following wiring harness # 119176KIT the correct one for my car? I was told by hitch world that the Solara uses a special wiring harness because of halogen lights.

The # 119176KIT hard-wire kit is a universal application, but it would be the correct choice to wire your 2007 Toyota Solara SE for towing. I have linked the installation instructions, but they are not going to be specific to your vehicle.

To install the hard-wire kit on your vehicle, you would use the included circuit tester to test the wires behind your vehicle tail lights for function. I would have a friend sit in the front and press the brake pedal or engage the turn signals as you test each wire behind your tail light. Once you have determined which wire is performing which function, you would connect the wires from the converter accordingly.

The four basic wire functions for the wires coming from the black converter box would be:

Green: Right turn and brake lights.
Yellow: Left turn and brake lights.
Brown: Running lights.
White: Ground wire. Connect this wire to a good, clean metal area on your vehicle frame.
Red: Brake wire, only used on vehicles with separate turn signals and tail lights. Your Solara would not require this wire, so it can just be tied away.

You will also see a thicker red wire coming from the converter box. You would run this wire, using the included wire bundle, and connect it to the vehicle positive battery terminal, with the included yellow fuse loop in between.

I have included for your reference a link to a typical video of the kit being installed on a vehicle with a similar wiring setup.
