Replacement 4-Pole Wiring Harness for 2005 GMC Yukon XL

Question:

This may be off topic but Im curious if my idea would work. My factory wiring harness on 2005 yukon has lost the left turn/brake lights yellow wire. The easiest solution I can think of is junction straight off the driver marker and brake light, then tie them directly to the yellow wire on vehicle side plug. I have to keep the 2 circuits isolated while connecting to the single yellow wire. Will a diode do that for me.

You probably could rig your damaged wiring harness in the way you describe, using diodes to keep the circuits separated, but I suggest just replacing the harness with a 4-pole set-up like # C59496. This is a hardwired harness with a substantial current capacity of 2.1 amps per stop/turn circuit and 7.5 amps for the tail lights.

The risk in doing what you describe is that the wiring/circuits you would be accessing for signals may not be able to provide the required current for the trailer lights. You might overload those circuits if the trailer lights pull more current than they can deliver.
