Hitch, Wiring & Brake Controller for 2016 Toyota RAV4
Question:
I have a 2016 Rav4 Hybrid Limited and would like to install a hitch and wiring. I see that there is no wiring under the dash like on other vehicles 2001 Ford P-up had the wire to plug in brake controller . Is there anything else that I will need and is the items below everything that I will need. We can help you get your 2016 Rav4 ready for towing a trailer with electric brakes.
The etrailer 2-inch Class III hitch # e98864 is an excellent choice for its substantial towing capacity and an install video is included for you. With the hitch you will need a 4-pole wiring harness. You can use the Curt # C56166 that you referenced, but instead I suggest the Tekonsha # 118578 because it can produce higher current output for the trailer lights. Installation is exactly the same as with the Curt harness. An installation video and article are linked to help you with the harness.
Along with the excellent Prodigy P3 brake controller # 90195 you will need the installation kit # ETBC7 which includes all the parts you'll need to install the controller. An installation video and article are linked to help you.
Towing also requires a ball mount and hitch ball. You might like the handy ball mount kit # 989900 which includes two sizes of hitch ball and two ball mounts. If you'd like a lock to secure the ball mount in your hitch you can use # e98880.
