Selecting Ball Mount to Allow Trailer to Remain Level When Hitched to 2012 Honda Odyssey

Question:

Hello! I have a 2012 Honda Oddessey and would lke to know if MT70380 will clear my bumper. The issue with a minivan is that it is so low to the ground. This would help as it would move height of ball up if used in the flipped over version. Many thanks.

Passenger vans like the Honda Odyssey do sit fairly low to start with, and once you bolt on a hitch receiver and load some passengers and cargo, the bottom of that hitch tube can be pretty close to the ground.

When we installed Draw-Tite hitch # 75270 on your vehicle we found that the hitch pin hole was 6-inches forward of the rear edge of the bumper cover. We also noted that the top of the receiver tube opening was 11-1/2-inches above ground level. This means the bottom on the hitch tube is going to be about 9-inches above ground. Again, cargo and passenger load and tire tread condition, tire pressure and the condition of the suspension all contribute to the actual ground clearance. Please refer to the linked video for more on these dimensions.

The Curt Channel Style Adjustable Ball Mount # C45900 has a reinforcing gusset that could interfere with the bumper when used in the rise position. You will likely find that Curt ball mount # C45900 will give you a better fit in the rise position. Please refer to the linked photo with dimensions.

Or if you prefer you can select a long fixed-type ball mount like # C45100 with the rise you need by referring to the linked article which explains how to measure vehicle and trailer heights to find the correct ball mount to keep the trailer level for best handling.
