Recommended Flat-Towing Components For 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Question:

Have a Mercedes Sprinter and looking to tow the Cherokee. Im looking for some experience to recommend the best combination of towbar and the simplest install for BasePlate on the Jeep The Sprinter is a 4WD and although I wont be going overland - I would want a towbar can pull up to 7500lbs that would flex for some rougher roads... Also looking for ease of hookup since I wont be on pavement. Finally I have a standard 2x2 tow kit but wonder if Ill have to buy an adjustable type to match a level towbar from Sprinter a bit higher with 4wd to the 4wd Jeep. Just looking to save aggravation by utilizing some experience. Thx!

There are five items needed when flat towing a vehicle. You need base plates, a tow bar, safety cables, wiring for the towed vehicle, and a supplemental brake system.

For base plates I recommend the Roadmaster XL Base Plate Kit, part # 1419-7. This kit has removable arms for a better appearance when not towing.

The tow bar I recommend is the Roadmaster BlackHawk 2 All Terrain, part # RM-422. This tow bar is designed for hooking up and releasing your Jeep, even on uneven ground. This tow bar has a 10,000-lb capacity.

For safety cables I recommend part # C80176.

For tow wiring I recommend part # BX8869. I have attached a photo that shows where this is installed.

The supplemental brake system I recommend is the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System, part # SM99251. I have attached a link to an installation video for this system you can check out.

Because you want to tow your Jeep as level as possible you can check out the included link to the high-low adapters to see what works best for you.
