Why Are There No All-In-One Flat Towing Kits

Question:

Why can I not find anywhere that sells a complete tow kit? I have to find the tow bar, then the base plate, then the wiring, then the braking system, then secure cables??????? Why?????

The reason that no one offers an all-in-one flat towing kit is that vehicles differ so much in their dimensions, weight and in the available access to the frame for securing the base plates that it would be just about impossible to design one kit that would work on most vehicles. Although we cannot offer you a one-box kit we can still help you select each of the required items to safely and legally flat tow your Jeep Wrangler.

You may care to start with the linked article on flat towing which lists and explains the items required. These include the tow bar, base plates, safety cables, a wiring/lighting kit of one type or another, a supplemental braking system and usually also a high/low hitch adapter and wiring extension kit.

Starting with base plate fits, these vary depending on how your Jeep is configured. For example, if you have a 2015 Wrangler (not a Rubicon X or Hard Rock edition) with standard factory bumper and no winch or guard, then you can use Blue Ox base plate kit # BX1126. This base plate fits 2007 through 2016 model years of the Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited that are equipped this way.

With these base plates you can use Blue Ox Alpha tow bar # BX7380 which mounts on your motorhome. The required safety cables are included. For a low-cost lighting kit you can use easy-to-install magnetic light kit # TL21RK and for easy hookup you can add a wiring extension like # BX8861 or # BX8862 depending on the connector type on the MH.

The easiest braking system to install is a wireless type like the Patriot # BLU37TR which is fully portable. It will require an 12V outlet kit # RM-9332.

For a high/low hitch adapter you can refer to the linked article for help in choosing the correct one to keep your tow bar level.

Please feel free to let me know your Jeep's model year and version and what type of front bumper it has and I will be glad to confirm a base plate fit to go with the other recommended items.
