Comparing Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE 4-Bike Rack & Sport Rider SE 2-Bike Rack + 2-Bike Extension
Question:
Is there a fit difference between the Hollywood Racks HR1400 and HR1450 with HR1475 added? They appear to be the same, except the HR1450 allows you to buy the single piece and later add on the HR1475 while the HR1400 comes all-in-one. My concern is ground clearance when backing out of a driveway or leaving a parking lot. Are there any other differences between the HR1400 and HR1450+HR1475, like the way they fit together, the tilt angle, etc? The weight appears to be different HR1400 is 88 lbs, HR1450 is 51 lbs and HR1475 is 42 lbs. The HR1450+HR1475 appears to be 5 lbs heavier. Is this just the difference in the packaging weight? I am also concerned about the tailgate on a 2016 Hondy Odyssey. Will the tailgate clear a bike when the rack is tilted in the down position if the bike closest to the tailgate is a mountain bike i.e. wider handles, likely, than a road bike. There is not a fit difference between the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE-Bike Platform Rack # HR1400Z and the HR Sport Rider SE 2-Bike Platform Rack # HR1450Z + the 2 Bike Expansion # HR1475Z. You are correct that the difference in the part numbers is the complete 4-bike rack # HR1400Z or the 2-bike rack # HR1450Z that can accept the expansion # HR1475Z.
The Sport Rider rack, in either combination, offers 7 inches of shank rise from the trailer hitch receiver to the rack platform to help provide additional ground clearance for such instances as parking lots and driveways.
The 4-bike # HR1400Z and the 2-bike # HR1450Z + expansion # HR1475Z are the same bike rack, with the 2-bike option just being the base rack of the 4-bike rack. There is not a difference in the tilt angels or the way the base rack and expansion fit together.
The shipping weights of the different components make it appear that the # HR1450Z + # HR1475Z would be heavier, but this is simply because of the additional packing material, as you noted. The rack weight of the 2-bike base rack is 45 pounds. As a 4-bike rack, it weighs 74 pounds. The 2-bike expansion weighs 29 pounds.
When we test fit this bike rack on a 2016 Honda Odyssey, we found that there was not enough clearance with a road bike installed to fully open the rear hatch of the Odyssey. If a bike with wider handlebars than a road bike were closest to the vehicle, the hatch will not open fully to provide complete access to the rear cargo area. However, with the bikes unloaded, the upright masts can be tilted down to the rack platform to allow you full access to this cargo area.
