What Do I Need to Install Electric Brakes on My Boat Trailer with Weight Capacity of 2232

Question:

I would like to install electric trailer brakes on my 2002 Bear Trailer model PB13 with GVWR of 2232 pounds. Do you offer a kit to do this or can you provide me with a list of parts that I would need to purchase? Thanks

With a single axle trailer rated for 2232 lbs. you have either a 3500 lbs. or something closer to a 2000 lbs. axle. Before purchasing anything you need to determine the correct one which you can easily do by checking the bearings once you have the trailer.

If your outer and inner bearings are both # L44643 that means you have a 2000 lbs. axle and need 7 inch brakes. Brake Assembly # AKEBRK-2L and # AKEBRK-2R and the Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-545-2-EZ-1K are what you need.

If your outer and inner bearings are both # L44649 it will still be a 2000 lbs. axle. The same brake assembly works but you need the Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-545-2-EZ-2K instead.

If your outer bearing is # L44649 and inner bearing is # L68149 that means you have a 3500 lbs. axle and need 10 inch brakes. Brake Assembly # AKEBRK-35L-SA and # AKEBRK-35R-SA are the correct ones and the Hub and Drum Assembly is # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K.

If the trailer had brakes already it has mounting flanges. Since there's no brakes as of yet, we have no way of knowing till you get it. If your axle is for 2000 lbs. you need # 4-34 or if it's the 3500 lbs. it's # 4-35. These need to be welded exactly square and should generally be done by a professional at a trailer shop.
