Trailer Hitch and Wiring Recommendations for a 2007 Dodge Nitro SXT
Question:
How do I know if it is a weight distribution installation or the other? Specs: Receiver opening: 2inch x 2 Rating: Class III Maximum gross trailer weight: 3,500 lbs Maximum GTW when used with weight distribution: 5,000 lbs Maximum tongue weight: 350 lbs Maximum TW when used with weight distribution: 500 lbs Limited lifetime warranty I already have the hitch. There appears to be some sort of factory sway bars, above where the hitch mounts - towards the front of the hitch. It is a 3.7 L, with auto transmission and power steering cooling lines installed from the factory. I originally bought it to tow a small utility trailer, now because of an injury I have to move and need to know the biggest camper/trailer I can pull. I can leave the water and fuel tanks empty if needed. I have to get a trailer and leave by Sunday morning, 8/07/16. Please help asap. Thanks,

Weight distribution is a separate item. The Curt trailer hitch # 13334 has separate ratings when using a weight distribution system and when towing like normal (weight carrying). Your 2007 Dodge Nitro 3.7 liter with factory coolers installed is rated for 3,500 pounds gross trailer weight and 350 pounds tongue weight or 5,000/500 pounds when used with weight distribution (consult your owner's manual to confirm).
If you are only towing the trailer one time for the move I say that weight distribution is not necessary unless you are moving further away than within the same city. Otherwise I do recommend weight distribution. It doesn't have to be the fanciest system so I recommend # RP65509. It comes with everything except for a ball. For a 2 inch ball use # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball use # 19286.
If you decide to pass on weight distribution then I recommend ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.
If the ball mount kit does not have the right rise or drop to tow the trailer level, use the link I have included that explains how to measure to choose a ball mount to tow the trailer level.
And for trailer wiring use # 118554 to add a 4-Way flat connector to the rear of the vehicle. I have included some helpful links on weight distribution and towing for you.
