Recommended Roof Rack And Kayak Carrier For 2007 Honda Accord With Naked Roof
Question:
I have a 2007 accord with a bare roof. I want to get into kayaking. Would your Honda Accord 2007 roof rack work? SR21002 Why do you recommend removal when not in use? Would I need any other gear with it? Thanks,

The SportRack Semi-Custom Roof Rack, part # SR1002 is designed to fit your 2007 Accord. You will also need part # SR1116. This is the short roof adapter. The # SR1116 is needed for roofs that have curved or short roofs like your Accord.
I called my contact at SportRack and asked about the recommendation to remove the roof rack when not in use and they told me it is dues to the wear and tear on the roof rack when empty and also the wear on the vehicle roof. Excessive wind noise is also a great reason to take the roof rack off when not used.
If you are not planning on kayaking really often I recommend a cost-effective carrier like part # RRRWP04. This system has a split bottom that wraps around the crossbar and elastic holds the pads in place. This protects the kayak when it is carried on the roof. This system comes with tie-downs.
If you are planning on kayaking frequently then the kayak carrier I recommend is the Hull-A-Port Kayak Carrier, part # TH834. This is a side loading J-style carrier that will work with kayaks that have a hull up to 36-inches wide. The carrier comes with bow and stern tie-downs and has a weight capacity of 75-lbs.
