Wiring Up Trailer 7-Way That Only Has 4 Wires

Looks like your trailer that has a 7-way is only wired up for turn signal functions. This is pretty common so there is nothing to worry about.

Since the colors of your trailer wiring aren't standard you would need to wire the connector by function and not color. That being said it looks like the white wire is for ground.

What you will need to do is use a jumper wire to run each circuit to a 12 volt battery post to see which circuit illuminates and then wire using the diagram attached. If the white wire sparks is because it is the ground.

Typically 4-way wiring consists of 18 and 16 gauge wires. For a 4-way that has all 16 gauge wire you would want the Wesbar 4-Pole Flat Connector #W787264. The part #HM38138 uses 18 gauge for all wires but the white that uses 16 gauge.
