Can 235/85-16 Tires be Used to Replace 235/80-16 Tires on a 5th Wheel Trailer

Question:

I have a 35 foot Montana HC weight is under 11000 LBS dry and it has ST235/80/16 E and I was thinking of going to the Goodyear LT235/85/16 G and I have the stock aluminum wheel will they handle the extra PSI?

You can use LT tires on a trailer as long as the LT is at the end of the size. Otherwise the tires are not constructed properly for trailer use. The wheels may have a sticker on them or information stamped into the back that says what the psi rating is. Normally this is not an issue and it has more to do with the psi rating on the valve stem being used.

If you want to go to the larger size and have enough clearance above the existing tires (the new size will be about 0.35 inches closer to anything above) I recommend # TTWPRG235R16. This is an ST235/85R16 tire, load range G, rated for 4,400 pounds at 110 psi. It fits the same size wheels as the size you are using now. For a valve stem rated over 100 psi use # AM20906.
