Recommended Wiring And Brake Controller For 2007 Nissan Pathfinder
Question:
Im looking into getting a 7 pole wiring harness for 2007 Nissan Pathfinder. I have the 4 flat plug, but I just got a small tent trailer with a 7 pole connector. I am also thinking of buying a double hitch receiver Part RM-077-4, or your Curt Multipurpose Ball Mount Part D210. I plan on towing a 2002 Coleman Taos and a hitch bike rack. I already have a hitch for my trailer came with the trailer that has a 4inch from the top of vehicles 2inch hitch opening to top of ball platform. This seems to be a good height for the trailer and vehicle. Im trying to get suggestions on options for towing when I go camping. Thanks.

If your trailer came with a 7-way connector it may have brakes. If that is the case then you will need a brake controller for your Pathfinder. I recommend the P2, part # 90885. This is our most popular because it is easy to install and operate. Your Pathfinder has a brake controller port under the dash and the other end simply plugs into the back of the brake controller.
You then need to go to the back of the vehicle and under the back on the driver side frame rail between the axle and bumper there will be 2 wires(one blue and one black) they will have a connector on them. You can use part # 37185. Just plug your 4-way into the 4-way connector on the back of the # 37185 and then attach the blue wire and black wire to the appropriate pins on the 7-way and attach the white ground to a clean bare metal surface and you are good to go.
If the camper does not have brakes you can simply install a # 37185 by connecting the 4-way on your Pathfinder to the 4-way on the # 37185, and then attach the white ground to a clean bare metal surface.
The # RM-077-4 is not designed to tow a trailer but we do have a ball mount that will work for you. I recommend the Curt Multipurpose Ball Mount, part # D210. This has a 2-inch receiver opening you can use for a hitch mounted bike carrier and it has a hitch ball hole to use for towing your trailer. I attached a photo of the ball mount with the dimensions noted you can check out.
