For a bare bones entry level trunk mounted bike rack, the Thule Passage would be a good choice, part # TH910XT for the 2 bike or # TH911XT for the 3 bike model. Nothing fancy there, but you'll get a rugged bike rack that features sturdy anti-sway cradles that will securely hold your bikes and will serve you well for years.

A step up from there would be the Thule Gateway Pro, part # TH88VR for the 2 bike and part # TH78VR for the 3 bike model. The Gateway provides the anti-sway cradles mentioned above, but they're upgraded with 2 layers of cushioning for the ultimate in bike frame protection. The rack also includes an integrated cable lock. The strap like # TH533 is needed to secure the rack to the vehicle, but the integrated cable lock secures the bikes to the rack.

For the easiest to use rack I've ever seen, take a look at the OutWay, # TH45JV for the 2 bike and # TH56BV for the 3 bike. The Raceway uses 2 rubbercoated straps instead of the standard 4-6 of other carriers to attach to the vehicle reducing the time needed to install the rack to just a few seconds. This is the perfect solution for somebody who uses a bike rack very frequently.

If you'll be transporting women's bikes or bikes with sharply-angled top tubes, you might also consider a frame adapter bar like part # UB01. The bar spans the distance between the handlebar gooseneck and the seat post, which provides a secondary attachment point for the bike rack. This allows the bike to be carried level, which maximizes ground clearance. I'll link you to a video showing how the adapter bar works.

I'll also link you to product demonstration videos for the bike racks I mentioned.
