How to Measure the Width of a Trailer Wheel

Question:

How is the width of the wheel measured? Is it from the extreme outer edges of the rim - or from the center of the bead bed . . . or what? My wheel is marked 15x5, yet the overall width looks to be more like 6-inches.

The width of a trailer wheel is measured from the inner edge of a bead to the inner edge of the other bead. If you take this measurement it should be 5 inches on your wheel. Take a look at the video I have linked that shows how to measure.

You can use a 205/75-15 sized tire as wheels can accept a range of tire widths. A 5-1/2 inch wide tire, like the Karrier ST205/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire, # AM10244, will still fit on a 5 inch wide rim.

I have also included links to two FAQ articles below on the other important measurements for trailer tires included bolt hole pattern and tire size.
