Can Weight Distribution Increase 650lb Manufacturers Tongue Weight Capacity of 2014 Toyota Tacoma
Question:
We are considering the purchase of a travel trailer with a tongue weight of 725lbs. However, our 2014 Toyota Tacoma SR5 Double Cab 4x4 with tow package is rated for a hitch weight of 650lbs including everything after the rear axles of the tow vehicle. If we use a weight distribution system, can we be comfortable towing a trailer with a TW of 725lbs? What is the recommended maximum using a weight distribution system? Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide. Cheers

Expert Reply:
Using a weight distribution system won't increase the 650lb tongue weight capacity of the vehicle, so you'll either need a more capable tow vehicle or a trailer that's lighter.
In some cases where the capacity of the hitch is less than the capacity of the vehicle, using a weight distribution system can raise the capacity of the hitch itself, but the manufacturer's stated towing capacity of the vehicle will have the final word.
