product AS23 Brophy step when extended distance from mounting strip to first vertical link, horizontal measurement. I need to clear custom bumper.

I went to the warehouse and pulled one of the Aluminum Scissor Steps, part # AS23 to take a measurement for you.

I have attached a photo of the top mounting strip and step you can check out. The distance from the mounting strip on the step assembly to the back of the top step is 3-1/4 inches. The distance from the inside of the mounting strip that is installed on the Trailer or RV to the back of the top step is right at 4 inches.

Sounds like you'd want to go with a removable scissor setup like the Brophy Camper Steps part #AS24 which will need to be taken off it's mounting bracket between uses. This will give you total access to your trailer hitch when needed.
