Gap Between First/Last Step and Mounting Plate on TorkLift GlowStep Stow N' Go Scissor Steps

Question:

Just ordered this product. Help the plate up to the trailer to mount. The first tread will have a 6 1/2inch gap between the trailer and the tread. In looking at the video on the product it looks like this is as intended. Am I missing something? My 5 year old will his foot right through there every time.

In regards to the TorkLift GlowStep Stow N' Go Scissor Steps part # TLA7833, there is indeed a 6-1/2" gap between the first/last step and the mounting plate. This is needed in order for the steps to fully retract. It is not the intention of TorkLift to trip little kids but the design is necessary for the steps to retract properly. If this were not there then the steps would stick out much further while retracted and I'm sure someone would not like either.

If you take a look at a similar style of truck bed camper steps, the Brophy Camper Scissor Steps part # AS05, you'll also see a large gap between the first/last step and the trailer.
