It sounds like you're looking to install a trailer brake controller on your 2006 FL60 Ambulance. Brake controllers are not vehicle specific, you can use any brake controller you'd like. My favorite brake controller is the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195. This is a top of the line brake controller with great features.
The Prodigy P3 features a customizable LCD display, 5 storable settings, 3 boost levels to adjust initial braking power, battery protection, and continuous diagnostics. This controller will work with both electric and electric over hydraulic braking systems. I have attached a review video of this controller for you.
To install the P3, you will likely need to hardwire the connections. If the vehicle already has a 7-way at the rear, you can use the # 5506 hardware kit to install the brake controller.
If the vehicle only has a 4-Way connector at the rear, you will want the # ETBC7 installation kit to provide you with a 7-Way and 4-Way trailer wiring connector as well as all of the wiring and hardware needed to install the connector and brake controller.
Part of the installation process for the brake controller is tapping into the vehicle's stoplight switch so the brake controller can use the signal to activate the trailer's brakes. This stoplight circuit can be accessed behind the brake pedal on vehicles with electric brakes. If your FL60 has air brakes, you will need to find a dedicated stoplight circuit elsewhere on the vehicle for the brake controller.
If there is no existing vehicle wiring harness with a trailer connector, you will want to install a 4-Way connector, like # C59236 before installing the ETBC7 kit. The C59236 wiring harness will combine the lighting on the FL60 to work with the combined wiring systems on trailers.
I have attached some help articles on installing a brake controller from scratch, as well as the installation instructions for the ETBC7 kit for you.
